Canadian musician Dallas Good dies aged 48

Dallas Good, singer and guitarist of Canadian rock/alternative country band Sadies, has died of natural causes at the age of 48.

The Sadies posted the news on their social media accounts Friday afternoon, saying in a Facebook post that Good passed away on Thursday and is in the care of a doctor from a coronary illness discovered on Thursday. earlier this week.

A band consisting of Good, singer/guitarist’s brother Travis Good, bassist Sean Dean and drummer Mike Belitsky, were formed in Toronto in 1994 and released their first album “Precious Moments” in 1998.

The band was still active at the time of Good’s death, and had released a new single, “Message to Belial” in January.

They were among the performers at a virtual version of Guelph’s Hillside Inside festival, Ont. earlier this month and was listed as a performer for Winterrupt, a music festival in Edmonton that runs from March 31 to April 3.

Sadies have postponed December 2021 dates at the Horseshoe Pub in Toronto for this April.

“We have no words for the shock we are all feeling,” the band’s Facebook post read Friday. “The stage was dark today with the premature extinguishing of one of the brightest lights in the music industry.”

Dallas and Travis Good come from strong musical backgrounds. Their father Bruce played in the Juno award-winning Good Brothers costume with his siblings while mother Margaret appeared on the recordings with both her husband and son.

Sadies’ 2017 album “Northern Passages” was recorded in Good parent’s basement in Newmarket, Ont.

The band has collaborated with many other homegrown artists, including Buffy Sainte-Marie, Blue Rodeo, Neil Young and Tragically Hip, with whom they have toured together.

The band teamed up with Hip frontman Gord Downie for the 2014 album “And the Conquer Sun” – a project that took seven years to complete.

Good said in a February 2017 interview that Sadies had been planning to re-record with Downie two years before he revealed he had terminal brain cancer. Downie passed away in October 2017.

Canadian bands including Sloan and the Sheepdogs tweeted tributes to Good as news began to spread Friday morning that he had passed away.

The Sheepdogs said they were “heartbroken” to hear Good’s passing, calling him a “great musician and a great guy.”

“We lost something good today,” the tweet read.

The Garrys trio, who released an album produced by Good in September, posted a photo of themselves with Good on their Facebook page with the caption saying they were “totally screwed”.

In addition to being incredibly talented and timeless, Dallas is also a very kind, gentle, funny and caring person.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to share the stage with The Sadies and especially the studio time with Dallas, listening to interesting stories about Canadian music and enjoying unusual cups of Red Rose tea. end.”
