Canadian retail sales down 0.6% in September: StatCan

Statistics Canada said retail sales fell 0.6 percent to $56.6 billion in September as new car sales fell amid limited supply as a semiconductor chip shortage hit production. in the automotive industry.
The agency said its preliminary estimate for October had shown retail sales for the month rose 1.0%, but it warned that the figure would be revised.
Sales in September fell in seven of the 11 sub-sectors as sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers fell 1.6% while sales at new auto dealerships down 2.8%.
Sales at clothing and clothing accessories stores fell 5.9% while sales at clothing stores fell 7.9%.
Core retail sales, excluding gas stations and dealers of motor vehicles and parts, fell 0.3 percent in September.
In terms of volume, retail sales fell 1.1% in September.
