About 40% of Canadians know a family member or friend who hasn’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 and most don’t raise an issue with them, a poll conducted this month found.
The survey conducted by Leger and commissioned by the Canadian Research Association found that four in ten Canadians have a friend or family member who was not vaccinated. 70% of these did not discuss the issue with them, with half of them saying they had given up on persuading them to get vaccinated.
The Leger-ACS survey found that for 35% of respondents, “it’s not a problem” and they don’t talk about it, plus they get along well with family and friends who haven’t been vaccinated. strains. A similar percentage gave up trying to convince people they knew to get vaccinated.

Jack Jedwab, president and CEO of the Canadian Research Association, says some studies show that a “tough” stance against the unvaccinated tends to be effective, and that a gentle approach persuasion is more effective.
“It is better to take a softer approach. There is no great value in taking a hardline approach,” he said.
The poll of 1,500 people, conducted December 3 to 5, found that respondents from Saskatchewan and Manitoba were more likely to have unvaccinated family and friends, followed by British Columbia. Respondents in rural areas are more likely to know someone who has not been vaccinated than in towns or suburban areas.

Atlantic Canadian respondents were more likely to “unfriend” unvaccinated family and friends, while Quebe Cancer survey respondents were more likely to try to convince others vaccination.
According to the poll results, Prairies respondents tended to reject the topic and “say it’s fine”.
