“With hand problems, I overtook the best boxer in the world Gennadiy Golovkin,” Alvarez said.

“I wanted to get that KO but it didn’t come because he’s a great fighter. That’s why there are 12 rounds in a fight. So you can show and show who’s who. the best. So I’m really pleased with what I’ve done tonight.”
He made it clear that the match he wanted was a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, the WBA light heavyweight who beat Alvarez earlier this year.
But first he had to recover his health.
“I’ll take my time. My body needs it [it]. Last year, I fought four times in 11 months, so that’s why. Maybe I need to take some time. May, September, I don’t know. But I need to take my time,” Alvarez said.
‘Our rivalry is over’
Golovkin also drew a line beneath the vicious rivalry he and Alvarez shared over the course of five years and three battles.
“He was the one who said it was personal. My reaction was why he waited so many years for this war to happen,” the Kazakh said.
“But after the battle when we looked into each other’s eyes, we didn’t say anything to each other anymore. We congratulated each other, we said the fighting was excellent and we moved on. Because we got it. At this level the sport is very dangerous and we are very pleased with the way this fight has turned out and our rivalry has ended.”
Golovkin lost this fight to Alvarez in super middleweight, but he remains the unified WBA and IBF champion in middleweight.
“I still have the fire inside me, I have this passion for boxing,” Golovkin said.
“I feel great like I said. I don’t allow any serious scenes and I’m not tired, I’m fresh. I feel strength, I feel strength within me, and of course If a big opportunity comes up, I’ll be looking to keep getting back in the ring.”
Chris Eubank Jr of England was quick to name the Kazakh. He took to social media to say: “GGG, you had a great run. Get back to middleweight and let’s fight for the belts you still have in December.
“Or just get over them and I’ll take care of them for the next few years while you retire… You’ve earned it, champ.”
