Honda’s motobike Revealed Civic Type R 2023 just over a month ago with some preliminary details. Today, Honda is going much deeper into what’s new and offers a lot of specs to study. Plus, there’s a bunch of new photos in the gallery above for you to explore – almost any color available are represented.
For starters, we finally have official US power figures from the revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The R makes 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, 9 and 15 increments, respectively. Honda says the extra power and torque comes from the turbocharger, intake system and redesigned exhaust. The turbo has new shapes and sizes of turbine blades, and Honda says this combined with better intake air flow helps the turbines generate pressure over a wider range. As for the exhaust, it has an active exhaust valve that opens at higher rpm, emitting a louder sound.
In an effort to cool the engine more aggressively, Honda says the new Type R has a larger opening grille than before, a larger radiator, and a larger diameter fan. Advanced cooling for track use is one of the big goals for refresh the previous generation Type Rso we’d like to see that Honda made it a priority from the start with this new Type R.
The only transmission available is a six-speed manual. The transmission is improved from the previous six-speed with a new high stiffness gear lever and an “optimized shift port pattern” for “super-precise shifting”. It also has a lighter flywheel and a rev-matching system.
Frame specifications and suspension changes are in this information and are the same as Civic Hatchback is not CHEAP, it has a wheelbase of 107.7 inches – an increase of 1.4 inches compared to the previous generation. The front track is 1 inch wider and the rear track is also 0.75 inch wider than the old R. Honda’s magical dual-axle strut front suspension design that makes the torque disappear is back, but it’s been retuned for this generation. The multi-link rear suspension has also been retuned and Honda claims these changes at the front and rear improve straight-line stability and handling.
All are fitted on new 19-inch matte black wheels that take advantage of what Honda calls a “reverse rim” design that improves the stability of the tire contact patch under load. These wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot The sporty 4S tires measure 265 width in all four corners – that’s 20mm more than before. Hidden behind the wheel are two front pieces brake rotor, and brake system generally optimized with re-adjusted brake booster. The brake cooling system has also been improved, and Honda says it has improved both feel and handling.
Honda says this new Type R is both more aerodynamically efficient and offers more thrust previous generation. All the aerodynamic designs – like the new rear spoiler and rear diffuser – were designed with input from development members of the HRD Sakura Super GT racing team.
As for the interior, Honda says occupants sit lower than before, but also claims enhanced visibility thanks to a thinner A-pillar, repositioned side mirrors and a lower hood. The red sport seats are lighter and have “suede effect” upholstery for extra grip on the track. Those red seats are the only color option inside, and the same goes for that fiery red carpet. Interior technology is getting a huge boost in line with Regular Civic Hatchbackso you’ll find a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, a Bose Centerpoint premium audio system, a digital gauge cluster with multiple modes view, control the new driving mode with “Personal” customization and an updated version of Honda’s LogR Performance Datalogger.
Aside from all the details above, Honda has nothing new to share that we haven’t covered in the car’s initial reveal. Which means there is no price yet. Yes, we were also disappointed. Honda says the Type R’s engine will be manufactured at Honda’s Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, but the car will be assembled at the Yorii Plant in New York. Japan. It will launch in the fall, and Honda said it expected pricing and even more details to be available as we near the full launch.
