‘Captain America 4’ finds its director in Julius Onah – The Hollywood Reporter

Captain America 4 there is a director.

Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah, perhaps best known for directing the 2018 horror film The Cloverfield Paradoxwill direct the fourth installment of the Captain America franchise for Marvel Studios.

Anthony Mackie will star in the film, reprising his longtime Marvel character Sam Wilson, but not, however, Wilson’s enduring alter ego and Captain America’s sidekick Falcon. That’s thanks to the events of the Marvel’s Disney+ series in 2021, Falcon and the Winter Soldierwitnessed Wilson, after much self-doubt, finally accept Captain America’s shield and cape.

Onah was born in Markurdi, Nigeria and has lived in localities around the world thanks to his parents who were diplomats before settling in the US. His shorts made an appearance at the film festival, while his NYU film school thesis film attracted Spike Lee as an executive producer.

JJ Abrams tapped him to direct a movie in a producer’s movie Cloverfield world, and while that studio film flopped, he’s received intense attention for his bounce back to his roots, the 2019 indie drama. Luce. Neon Movie Starring Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Octavia Spencer and premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
