SACRAMENTO, California – Carl Reed has been appointed Sacramento State Senior Athletics Director for Facilities, Operations, and Capital Projects, announced by Athletics Director Mark Orr.

Reed will serve on the Sports Department senior management team and will oversee all facility and event operations. Reed will also play a large role in the planning and execution of future NCAA championships and U.S. track and field events hosted by the State of Sacramento.

“Carl is one of the most respected individuals in his place in college athletics,” Orr said. “He brings experience from all levels and will help us execute events at the highest level while continuing to plan our future.”

Reed has most recently served as the Santa Clara Sports Administration’s Assistant Director of Athletics for the past five years. With the Broncos, he was sports manager for men’s and women’s water polo, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s rowing. He also oversees the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is the department’s liaison with student life, housing and Title IX. He also started a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) effort for the Department of Athletics.

Reed previously worked at the University of Southern California from 2013-17 as Assistant Athletic Director/General Manager of the Galen Center. At USC, he oversees and runs all event operations including non-athletic events and award programs at the Galen Center. He helped generate $1.3 million in annual revenue and was responsible for marketing and promoting the Galen Center to external advertisers, university staff, and the general public.

Prior to USC, he was the facilities manager of the Los Angeles Sports Arena and the Los Angeles Memorial Arena for two years, where he managed day-to-day operations as well as directed maintenance and renovations for both facilities. department.

He was Director of Athletics for the Cal Channel Islands from 2009 to 2011 and directed the development and creation of the college’s intercollegiate athletics program. He has also worked in San Diego (2000-03) and was the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities, Activities and Events at Stanford (2003-09).

Reed earned a master of arts degree in health recreation and physical education from St. Mary after also earning a bachelor of arts degree in government from there.
