Carnival Miracle cruise ship: The woman who went too far

Long Beach, CALIF. The U.S. Coast Guard has halted its search for a woman believed to have overstepped on a cruise ship near Ensenada, Mexico.

Authorities searched for the woman for more than 31 hours before pausing the search Sunday to await additional information, Petty First Class Officer Adam Stanton said Sunday.

The woman in her 20s was believed to have gone overboard early Saturday, he said.

The Carnival Miracle cruise ship returned to port in Long Beach on Sunday, KABC-TV reported, where federal authorities are awaiting an investigation.

Cruise ship passenger Daniel Miranda said an announcement was made early Saturday that someone had crossed over on board, and that areas of the ship had been cut ropes and limited information was provided.

The woman was not immediately identified. The ship left the Los Angeles area on Thursday.
