Carole Baskin opposes claims that husband Don Lewis may be allowed to live
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida has renewed its investigation into the incident in 2020. Cpl. Moises Garcia told Tampa Bay Times that the Department of Homeland Security recently supported the Sheriff’s Office through its Panama office by “running contacts in Costa Rica.”
Garcia declined to comment on the material shown on the show, citing the open investigation. However, Joseph C. Dominick, a former police chief with an investigation who assisted Garcia in the case, told the newspaper that anything on the series that showed Lewis alive in Costa Rica was “all noise.”
Garcia called Baskin a “senior figure of interest” in the case. When asked if she was a suspect, Garcia said the only person who wasn’t a suspect was herself, adding, “Everybody else could happen.”
Baskin said in a statement on her website on Thursday that Tiger King 2 “continues to do whatever it takes to falsely convince viewers that Carole is involved in the disappearance of Don Lewis… And for all of you who still want to believe that Carole killed Don, please explain. Tell us why you think detectives are in the armchair, or you are better informed FBI Special Agent in this Homeland Security Document that says “Don Lewis is now alive and well in Costa Rica.”
Lewis’ family is offering a separate $100,000 reward for tips that help figure out what happened to him. They advertised it on billboards and even in an advertisement that aired in the fall of 2020 in Dancing with the stars, when Baskin competed on the show.
Baskin theorizes that Lewis crashed a small or ultralight plane into the Gulf of Mexico, which she detailed in a recent Reddit Q&A. Above Tiger King 2, Lewis’ associate in Costa Rica, Rey Rodriguez, says the man “talks about moving to Costa Rica to start over” and tells him “he’s there to get rid of Carole.” Rodriguez said Lewis flew a Cessna plane back and forth there and then he would often carry heavy boxes filled with $100,000 to $200,000 in $100 bills, bury them under used clothing, and set the case.” in different companies” to hide money.
