Cars out of the roadway, through the fence, into the house in Clifton, New Jersey
It happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Colfax Avenue in Clifton, where it intersects the Garden State Parkway. Newscopter 7 was on the scene as crews worked to move the vehicle.
The driver, who was described by witnesses as a woman in her 50s, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to St. Joseph.
At this point, it is not clear why she lost control, but the car had traveled quite a distance before stopping.

“She doesn’t appear to be seriously injured,” witness Carl Haefele said. “One thing that amazed me was the integrity of the car. She was able to open the driver’s door, after that whole trip and fell off a 10 or 12 foot embankment. She was able to get out on her own. get out of the car and walk around to look at it.”
Haefele said he heard what he thought might be a tractor-trailer in his front lawn, but when he got out, the only thing he could see was a large mess.
There were various pieces of fence scattered about, and his neighbor’s garage had holes in it.
“She must have moved, really moved,” he said. “Most likely she walked a few hundred feet on the park road before reaching our fence.”
The car had a problem in the air conditioning unit and simply slid completely into the town house.
It is not clear at this time what caused the driver to lose control and the investigation is still ongoing.

It’s not clear if speed is a factor, but Haefele said it’s not the first time he’s seen an accident in the area.
“I’ve been in this house for 48 years,” he said. “I’ve seen cars pull out of the parkway twice. This was the first one to go over the fence.”
