Alarming video has emerged of a barge with no moorings washing up on the Vancouver coast during Monday’s fierce storm.
Videos posted on Twitter appear to show the barge heading for the city’s Burrard Street Bridge, drifting across English Bay and appearing to be stranded at Sunset Beach.
It is unclear who was responsible for the ship, or if there was any cargo on board.
The Port of Vancouver told CTV News that the Canadian Coast Guard is leading the response to the incident, but could not provide any further details.
“As the Ports of Canada Authority, our role is to ensure the safe movement of ships throughout the Port of Vancouver and as such, we are monitoring the situation as it evolves to ensure ensure the barge does not pose a danger to navigation,” the spokesman said in an email.
CTV News has reached out to the Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center for more information.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
