CDC data showed that the country reported nearly 3,000 new deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday, a new high since mid-February last year.
The number of daily deaths from COVID-19 has increased in recent weeks, as the new variant of Omicron has spurred a new increase in the number of cases and hospitalizations since early December, Xinhua news agency reported.
According to CDC figures, the country is seeing more than 1,600 deaths from COVID-19 every day.
