Baaeed will face eight opponents when he has the much-awaited finale of the Qipco Champion Stakes in Ascot on Saturday.
The undefeated superstar trained by William Haggas was last seen at Juddmonte International in York in August and although the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is under consideration, the ties have chosen to stick to original plans. head is bowing on Qipco British Championship Day.
Leading the opposition was last year’s Derby and King George’s hero Adayar, who has considered particularly good terms with himself about his delayed reappearances for Charlie Appleby and William Buick at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting.
An intriguing side story for the race is the coaches’ championship, with victory going to Baaeed or Adayar sure to go a long way in deciding the outcome.
Haggas also runs Dubai Honor and My Prospero, with Sir Michael Stoute represented by Bay Bridge and Roger Varian at the helm of the highly regarded Royal Champion.
There will be three athletes from Ireland – Mac Swiney, Stone Age and Helvic Dream.
Elsewhere that promises to be a sparkling afternoon, Inspiral is the star attraction among nine stars in Queen Elizabeth II’s Stakes, while Trueshan has been claimed for the Long Distance Trophy – as well Leger winner, Eldar Eldarov.
