Check baggage Jeep Grand Wagoneer

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer To be big. Its Jeep car That size hiding style is a bit better than GM and Ford trucks are more similarly proportioned to their full size vans cousins, but this cuckoo is still nearly 18 feet long. It is 4 inches longer than Tahoe/Escalade and Explore/Navigator (but not enough compared to their respective Suburban sized models). That extra length is fully on display in this test, and, funnily enough, can actually be appreciated by buyers of this massive new Jeep.

Note that this check applies to both Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer as the “great” bit applies to its popularity rather than the difference in size. As a result, the specs say both have 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the raised third row of seats. Theoretically, that’s a 1.9 cubic foot advantage over Tahoe and a significant 8.1 cubic foot difference from Expedition. However, in their baggage tests, I discovered that Tahoe’s real-world advantage is much smaller. This test with the Grand Wagoneer will once again point the direction of GM’s real-world capabilities closer to Ford’s and Jeep offer the kind of extra power that the specs indicate.

The third row of seats reclines back, so, as usual, I place it at an angle where I feel comfortable sitting for long periods of time. And I tell you, I could actually sit in the third row of the Grand Wagoneer because it’s legitimately spacious and comfortable, even for someone 6 feet 3. Probably more than the Explorer. / Directional. But that is a story for another day.

As in every baggage test I do, I use two medium roller suitcases that need to be checked in at the airport (26 inches long, 16 wide, 11 deep), two on-board roll-on suitcases that only fit the top (24L x 15W x 10D) and one roll on smaller ships that fit easily (23L x 15W x 10D). I also included my wife’s favorite overnight bag just to spruce things up a bit (21L x 12W x 12D).

Bam, that’s easy. All pockets fit. This is the first SUV I tested, including intersect, can swallow all six bags behind their raised third row. The Expedition left behind one of the largest bags, while the Tahoe would have left the fancy bag unless I stuffed everything up to the ceiling.

The difference to the Grand Wagoneer really comes down to that extra length. Of both the Ford and GM SUVs, my biggest bag is right next to the door. In a Jeep, note how much space is left between the largest pocket (lower right) and where the mat makes contact with the mat. Also note that I can stack another large bag and one of the medium bags according to their side widths. None of that happened to Ford or GM. There’s also no shortage of height, as even with a fancy bag loaded on top, it’s farther from the ceiling than it was in the Expedition and maintains rear visibility. Remember, I don’t load the bags on the roof for obvious reasons, the bags fly into the cabin and at this point, consistency. You are free to do so.

So you have it. Obviously, one Suburban or Pilot LE there will be more room than this, but aside from those extended length models, I feel confident in stating that Jeep Grand Wagoneer (and the Wagoneer) has the most space behind the third row of any other SUV. You can fit seven people inside and there should be enough room for their stuff.

Now, some other commodity related items.

The seat is raised and lowered by touching these buttons once. That’s a great feature, especially given how much reach you have with the third row if you have to manually pull it up.

Now for something not so good. The power lift button is located inside and not on the lift door itself. This means it can be covered with a pocket, as in this test, or you’ll have to fumble for it in the dark.

Or worse…

You’re once again clinging to the goddamn raised door that doesn’t raise as high as most other SUVs. Yes, even with height adjustment. I’m 6t, but it’s usually not this terrible. Noisy.
