Chelsea probe the possibility of signing the former player to resolve a striker crisis following the exasperation of Aubameyang’s dismissal:

Chelsea exploring re-signing Atlético Madrid striker Alvaro Morata when they had problems in pursuit Barcelona in front of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyangfollow Sport.

The Blues are struggling to agree a fee with Barca and are increasingly frustrated with the Gabonese striker’s lack of progress.

The west London side have proposed a player-plus-cash deal involving Marcos Alonso but Barcelona are offering a bid of 25 million euros.

Chelsea are not willing to meet this asking price and are therefore considering turning their attention elsewhere.

They have heard of the availability of Atleti’s Morata, who previously played for the Stamford Bridge team.

The Spaniard joined the Blues in 2017 from Real Madrid for 70.8 million euros, becoming a Premier League club record signing at the time.

He completely failed to impress during his time at the Bridge, managing 72 appearances and scoring 24 goals.

Morata will soon leave Atletico on loan in 2019 before a permanent move in 2020 for 65 million euros.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are in need of a central defender following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Lukaku only arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer for a club record €115m but has already run into trouble on and off the pitch.

He returned to Inter Milan on a season-long loan while Werner joined RB Leipzig permanently for 30 million euros.

Time is running out for Tuchel to find a replacement and their bid to recruit Aubameyang is becoming increasingly unlikely.

The return for Morata, who has two years left on his current contract, may just be in the early stages.

The Atletico striker has previously talked about his time at Stamford Bridge not being too salty.

He said before moving to play permanently for Atleti in 2020 Target:
