Chennai Corporation increases contact tracing capabilities as the number of Covid-19 cases increases

A senior Greater Chennai Corporation official speaking to IANS said, “The increase in Covid cases is mainly due to travel to other states and countries. Attending public gatherings in weddings, meetings, workplaces and fish and vegetable markets are among the reasons to be affected.”

However, he also said that the Tiruvottriyur and Tiruvika zones have tracked fewer connections and therefore need to increase. The Tamil Nadu health department has directed the Greater Chennai Corporation to track down at least 10 positive cases and ensure that all positive cases are contacted on a daily basis.

Greater Chennai Corporation has also directed health officials to conduct a door-to-door vaccination campaign as 120,000 people in the company have yet to receive a second vaccination.

The company has also begun raising awareness for more than 60 people about the third dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Tamil Health Minister Nadu Ma Subramanian when speaking to IANS said, “The presence of BA4 and BA5 sub-Omicron bacteria is spreading faster and if one person in the household is infected then immediately That means others are affected as well.”

He urged people to ensure that they follow Covid protocol and wear masks, keep a safe distance and sanitize regularly.

Ma Subramanian said, “Most of the Covid cases are isolated at home and are being cured quickly and those hospitalized are suffering from colds, fevers, coughs and mild infections. There have been no ICU cases despite the emergency services. State hospitals are equipped with oxygen beds and other emergency facilities are available.”
