Chicago police: 1 person charged after jumping out of United Airlines flight, walking on wing at O’Hare airport


CHICAGO (WLS) – A person has been arrested after Chicago police said he pulled an emergency exit on a plane at O’Hare airport and slid down the airport Thursday morning.

The United Airlines plane was approaching O’Hare Gate around 4:32 a.m. after arriving from San Diego when police said the male passenger pulled the emergency exit.

He then stepped onto the wing of the plane and slid down to the airport, police said. Officers then arrived at the scene and arrested him.

Randy Davila, 57, is now charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless conduct. Airport operations were not affected by the incident.

A United employee released a statement about the incident saying“This morning, United Flight 2478 was flying toward the gate at Chicago O’Hare when a passenger opened the plane’s door and exited the plane. Our crew intercepted that person outside the plane and this person. is currently on the law enforcement team. The plane subsequently arrived at the gate and all passengers landed safely. The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority.”

The Chicago Department of Aviation released a statement saying, “Shortly after 4:30 a.m. today, there was an incident involving a passenger on United flight 2478, at O’Hare International Airport, headed from San Diego. Police officers. Chicago Police Department (CPD) landed at the gate and took the individual into custody. No injuries were reported.”
