Chiefs vs. Broncos, updates, highlights from Saturday’s NFL game
The captains will face the Broncos for a potential top seed in the AFC knockouts on Saturday.
A win in Denver would allow Kansas City to be no worse than the 2nd seed in the AFC playoffs. A win over the Broncos – with a Titans loss to the Texans on Sunday – would give Kansas City the top spot. Although the Broncos are out of contention after the season, quarterback Drew Lock will try to help Denver finish the season by breaking a three-game unbeaten streak.
The Chiefs last played against the Broncos at home in Week 8 to score Kansas City 8-4 in a 22-9 win. Despite the home advantage, Patrick Mahomes struggled against Denver, completing 15 of 29 184-meter passes and one interception. He continued the Chiefs’ winning streak and completed 20 of 24 258-yard passes with two touchdowns against the Raiders the following week.
IYER: Breaking Kansas City Seeding Scenarios in NFL 2022
In Kansas City’s 34-31 loss to the Bengals last week, Mahomes avoided a layoff and completed 26 259-yard passes with two touchdowns. However, he unleashed a number of incomplete passes in the second half to limit the Captain’s goals, which allowed Cincinnati to come back up to take the win at home.
Mahomes will be challenged against Denver’s defensive pass. In their most recent meeting, the Broncos held Kansas City with just the first 15 knockdowns with 178 yards of passing and 89 yards of charge. Lock, on the other hand, will be trying to get his first win as a starter this season. After Teddy Bridgewater had to leave the field with a head injury in the Broncos’ 15-10 loss to the Bengals in Week 15, he scored a goal in his first appearance in the game. He most recently completed 18 of 25 245-yard passes with a touchdown in the 34-13 loss to the Chargers in Week 17.
