China EV claims fast charging record, range 702km


Guangzhou-based Xpeng brand, one of China’s emerging electric vehicle startups, has detailed its new flagship SUV G9 with some special statements and self-description. focus on global markets.

The mass-produced version of the Xpeng G9 will go on sale in China in October this year as a rival to cars like the Audi e-tron, with a title of 800V electrical system capable of using the Xpeng’s radical 480kW DC charger.

This charger is said to be able to charge the Xpeng G9 from 10-80% in 15 minutes or add about 200 km in 5 minutes. Xpeng said it aims to open a total of 2000 supercharged sales locations across China by 2025, following a similar approach to Tesla.

The rear-wheel drive models use the 230kW and 430Nm drive motors with 6.4s 0-100km/h and offer a driving range on the CLTC tolerance cycle of 570km or 702km for the road. long. For context, the 570 km claim equates to about 460 km in the European WLTP cycle.

All-wheel drive models add a 175kW and 287Nm front-wheel drive motor, cutting the 0-100km/h time to just 3.9 seconds and offering a driving range of 650 km. Xpeng refers to the Boost Mode that helps the car reach peak torque in 0.15 seconds.

Underneath the body, the G9 uses a double wishbone suspension at the front and a five-link suspension at the rear, and a 100mm height-adjustable twin-chamber air suspension.

Active driver assistance functions appear enhanced. There’s dual Nvidia Drive Orin chips delivering 508 trillion operations per second, and 31 sensors including two LiDARs that provide “industry-first panoramic driver support.”

Inside, the Xpeng’s voice assistant is powered by MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology, which means it can respond to commands from all four areas of the cabin. The assistant is said to respond in milliseconds and control more than 600 vehicle functions without a network connection.

The sound system features 28 speakers, 2250W of output power, and offers an immersive experience that includes seat vibrations, changing ambient lighting, adjustable climate control, and custom fragrances when watching movies or listening to music. music.

On the safety front, Xpeng says it designed the G9 for both the Chinese and international markets and thinks it should meet the five-star NCAP requirements. But time will tell.

In China, the G9 will start from 309,900 RMB (AU$66,500) all the way up to RMB 469,900 (AU$105,500) with first deliveries to customers expected in October.

While currently focusing on China, Xpeng is going global, with an existing presence in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway.

Xpeng’s other vehicles include the P7 luxury sedan and the G3i small SUV.

Xpeng Motors was founded in 2015 in Guangzhou by Xiaopeng He, Heng Xia and Tao He.

Heng and Tao previously had experience as executives at the Chinese automaker’s GAC Group (perhaps best known in the world for its Trumpchi brand and joint venture with Honda), while Xiaopeng was first. He used to work at e-commerce giant Alibaba.

Since then, the company has grown rapidly and is publicly listed on both the NYSE and Hong Kong stock exchanges.
