Chinese startup may soon create electric vehicles with cell-to-chassis technology

A Chinese startup plans to get rid of battery packs entirely and integrate cells directly with EV chassis.

With this in mind, Neta Auto on Wednesday announced a partnership agreement with battery supplier CATL to use its cell-to-chassis technology, called Integrated Intelligent Chassis (CIIC). ).

In a press release, Neta said it would be the first Chinese EV company to develop the technology, but did not say when it might appear on a production vehicle. It could also be the first vehicle to do so for a passenger vehicle anywhere in the world.

Cell-to-chassis means that all battery components are housed within the vehicle’s structure, no need for a separate battery pack. Neta Auto claims this will help improve everything from range to safety.

CATL’s CIIC is essentially a one-stop-shop approach in which the battery supplier is looking to combine its cell-to-pack technology with motors and other drive components in the chassis, enabling multiple EVs from a modular architecture.
