Chloe Zhao joins Vincent Chin limited series production from participant – The Hollywood Reporter
Join the Media’s limited series on Vincent Chin and his landmark posthumous human rights case added Chloé Zhao as executive producer.
The Oscar winner joins a production team that includes journalist and activist Helen Zia – who runs the Chin estate – and Vicangelo Bulluck, Donald Young and Paula Madison.
Zhao said: “I was deeply moved by Helen’s personal connection to Vincent’s story and her insightful and nuanced perspective on this difficult but inspiring story. “I am honored to join the team and embark on this journey together.”
Chin, a Chinese-American drafting agent for an auto parts supplier, was killed in 1982 by two white auto workers in a wave of anti-Asian protests in Detroit, where imports of Japan is blamed for the decline and layoffs in the US auto industry. His killers received light sentences, fines and probation, which sparked outrage in the Asian-American community and a federal citizenship trial. Zia helped lead the push for federal charges in the case.
