Talk to The IndependentGiles’s mother Dusty Leslie Giles shared more details about the last text messages her daughter sent Cabrales-Arzola around 5:48 a.m. on November 13, saying they planned to take an Uber home.
Giles said: “My daughter texted Hilda to ‘get out of here’ ‘with a big eye emoji – as if she’s scared, we have to leave. Hilda agreed and said, ‘I’m going,’ Uber,” said Giles. “We know that Hilda booked an Uber, we know that about 5-10 minutes later an Uber will arrive.”
She added, “Uber waited. Uber left.”
A GoFundMe campaign, which lists Cilliers as beneficiaries, was created to fund funeral expenses, as well as hire private investigators. To date, it has received more than $130,000 in donations.
