City Council special meeting on Wednesday’s mandate to vaccinate city workers

CHICAGO (CBS) – Alderman will hold a special meeting of the City Council in an effort to get Mayor Lori Lightfoot to change his mandate to vaccinate city employees.

The meeting involved 11 aldermen who are pushing for change.

All city workers were supposed to get their first dose of the COVID vaccine since Sunday or were placed on undisciplined, unpaid status.

Lightfoot now says city workers have until April 13 for a second COVID shot.

City data shows more than 2,000 employees remain non-compliant.

11 alderman wants to include natural COVID immunity as a reporting option for city employees, along with testing.

Lightfoot called today’s meeting a “stunt.”

“It wasn’t a stunt, it was a reaction to her own abrasive behavior and refusal to cooperate…”, Ald. Ray Lopez (Ward 15) said.

Lightfoot added that She won’t be attending Wednesday’s special meeting booked for 2pm
