Claressa Shields Says Savannah Marshall’s Knockout Power Won’t Be Enough In Their Undisputed Title Clash | Boxing News

Claressa Shields says Savannah Marshall’s strength isn’t enough to beat her, despite the British champion’s dramatic knockout win over Femke Hermans.

Marshall knocked out Hermans with a superb left hook on Saturday night to set up an undisputed middleweight world title clash with Shields, who is watching from the box at Newcastle Utilita Arena.

But her American rival insists she is far from discouraged Marshall’s destructive performance.

“Congratulations, that’s what you have to do,” Shields said Sports sky.

“I said she would do it to Femke. I’m not Femke Hermans, I’m not Hannah Rankin, I’m not any of the girls she fought against.”

“The punch power she has, I’m sorry to tell you, if that’s what I expected, it’s been wiped out.”

Shields had to settle for a decisive unanimous victory over Hermans, but she was quick to point out: “I went the distance with Femke four years ago. We fought four years ago, early in the rivalry my career.

Shields says Marshall will need more than strength to defeat her

“She is [Marshall] will get in trouble with me and she certainly won’t knock me down. “

When asked if Marshall was the biggest boxer in women’s boxing, Shields said: “No, she’s not, and you’ll see that when I come back in the summer and show you that you have to have power, you have to have, you have to have all of that.

“Just won’t let her take a big punch to deal with me in the ring. It’s going to take a lot.

“Femke was able to make her miss and I’m 10 times faster than Femke, so what do you think I would do?”

But Marshall remains confident she will silence Shields with a heavy loss, after stopping Hermans for a 10th goal in 12 wins.
