CNN Host Brianna Keilar Corners GOP Rep. Mike Turner on Whether He’d Take Home Classified Docs Like Trump

Representative Mike Turner (R-OH) asked to know Sunday whether the old boxes President Donald Trump is said to have taken to Mar-a-Lago to be actually classified, argued that seeing only top-secret documents would prove whether the FBI needed to raid Trump’s Sunshine State property.

Not that Turner would need to worry, because he said he Do not bring home confidential documents.

“Do you take home documents marked as special access?” CNN host Brianna Keilar asks Turner on CNN’s State of the Union.

“No,” Turner replied.

That’s often the case in Turner’s hot interview on Sunday, second pass on the net in the last week. During that time, members of the House Intelligence Committee GOP repeatedly criticized the decisions of the FBI and the Department of Justice about the raid the former president’s home on Monday… while also admitting he will not participate in Trump’s alleged conduct.

Keilar pressed Turner on his double-standard approach when Turner used some gymnastics to question whether the documents were a national security threat in the first place. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t justify an hour-long raid, he said. But he admits he didn’t know it was happening.

“[The DOJ] concerned that this could be a national security threat. When you doubt it, you have proof that this is Not a national security threat? ‘ Keilar asked.

“We don’t have to speculate,” Turner said. “We have all the clearance. Congress has all supervisory powers. All Garland Attorneys have to do is comply with the law, provide this information to us. Let us review. Show us the goods”.

In another turn of the interview, Keilar highlighted Turner on his past condemnation of Hillary Clinton over her handling of classified information. She asked why he didn’t hold Trump to the same standard, to which Turner insisted Trump was not engaged in any ongoing diplomacy due to the “static” nature of the paper documents. Again, Keilar asked how Turner could claim that without proof.

“How do you know they’re not continuing? You haven’t been briefed on what you want to be featured on,” she said. “How do you know that?”

Turner could not answer. “Papers are static. They’re not constant data communications and data transfers, but what’s going through Clinton’s servers,” he said. “They didn’t raid her house. They raided his house.”

Turner attempted to bolster some of the GOP’s partisan theories about the raid, including Trump’s claim that all documents were declassified only because they were in his possession before he left office. department. He also suggested Garland – “whose personal career Donald Trump himself was derailed on the way to the Supreme Court by Donald Trump himself” – may not have conducted the raid fairly since. since Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was nominated for his Supreme Court six years ago.

However, Turner admitted that he did not have an answer to support the innuendo he was making. Instead, he called on the Justice Department to protect the “intrusion” raid and provide the House Intelligence Committee with documents.

“Show us the merchandise,” he said.
