Co-creator of ‘Dog Booking’ Sterlin Harjo Inks FX Pact – The Hollywood Reporter

Booking dog boss Sterlin Harjo is starting work at FX Productions.

The co-creator of one of the year’s best-reviewed comedies has signed a multi-year master deal with the cable network and in-house studio behind the series.

Harjo will create and develop new projects for FX in addition to acting as a host on the second season of FX. reservation dog, which he created with his longtime friend Taika Waititi. Under the deal, Harjo has developed an untitled limited series that he will co-write with best-selling novelist Jonathan Lee. Harjo directs the project and produces with Garrett Basch. (Additional details surrounding the series were not immediately available.)

Booking dog, which has an impressive 98 percent score among critics and 88 percent viewer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, centers around four indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma and their drive to get to California. The comedy, which FX renewed for a second season in September, was recently named one of the AFI TV Shows of the Year and also won a Gotham Award for its groundbreaking series. The series has entered some of the best lists of 2021 among critics with CHEAP Major television critic Daniel Fienberg called it “[a] in particular, the great success of the representation. ”

Booking dog is too stellar and can’t go back soon enough,” said Nick Grad, FX president of originals. “We believe in Sterlin’s unique vision and welcome this opportunity to continue working with him in bringing more great TVs to FX.” Harjo added: “I am excited to continue to grow my partnership with FX and have the opportunity to capture more Native voices and stories.”

Harjo credits include feature Mekko and Four Sheets to the Wind. He was a founding member of the 1491s comedy troupe. Harjo joined The Hollywood Reporter audio file Top 5 . TV in August to discuss how his longtime friendship with Waititi helped get the show into the door at FX, why he walked away if the comedy wasn’t filmed in Oklahoma, and his hopes about how Native American stories might develop. “Not everyone wants to be shot down from a horse,” Harjo said of screen stereotypes in the interview. “We couldn’t have survived the genocide through not being funny,” he said. “You have to laugh in the face of that darkness and find ways to love and survive. That’s what I want to celebrate Booking dog. ”
