Police said, “He was charged with possessing a firearm in the schoolyard, falsifying its serial number and disrupting school operations. No one was injured in the incident.”
Students are dropped off in groups to reunion locations on the street.
The school is located on the 1400 block of NW 44th Avenue.
CBS4 obtained cell phone video inside the classrooms while the locking was in progress, showing that most of the lights were off.
The students told us that they waited a long time to get out of school.
“I feel very nervous and anxious, this is not the first time Coconut Creek has had a lot of problems so I am very worried and I don’t think my child will ever return to this school,” said Natalie Etienne, parent.
“I picked him up at 12:30. I waited in line so I was here before it happened,” said Tiffany Hood, a parent at the reunion. “I was so scared because they didn’t tell us anything and we wanted out for an hour, it was 1:45 a.m. when the police came and said we had to come over.”
“It’s disappointing and very relevant for the times we live in today,” Eienne said.
