Cody Rhodes debuts at WWE Wrestlemania after leaving AEW

One of pro wrestling’s biggest questions has been answered. After leaving AEW in February, Cody Rhodes is back in the ring – and to a company he once called home. The speculation turned out to be correct and Rhodes was revealed to be Seth Rollins’ mysterious rival in Night 1 of Wrestlemania 38.

This is Rhodes’ first game with the company since leaving in 2016, when he was still playing the Stardust character. After leaving WWE, Rhodes went independent during the storm, having joined New Japan Pro Wrestling, Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor and, most notably, as one of the founders of All Elite Wrestling. Now, he also has the honor of being the company’s first major departure, returning to his former home in WWE.

Of course, just because he’s back in WWE doesn’t mean Rhodes has abandoned the personality he’s built over the past few years. He’s still the American Nightmare, and he’s still using the same entrance theme he used to come out in the indies and on AEW television.

We’ll have to stay tuned now to see how Cody is used in WWE programming in the future – and how likely he is to end up becoming WWE or Universal Champion at some point. For now, since he’s going up against Seth Rollins, it’s safe to say he’ll be on the Raw franchise.
