BERRIEN COUNTY, Mi.- Valentine’s Day is just two days away, and what better way to tell someone you care than by sending them a card. Well, that’s exactly what kids at a local elementary school did in Coloma.
Students at Coloma Elementary School can show their gratitude to veterans by making Valentine’s Day cards for them.
“I read words like fearlessness and generosity, and they see veterans as heroes, and they want to support them and say thank you and let them know they’ve been supported by their family and friends. miss,” Lance LaVanway, a third grade teacher. at Coloma Elementary School said.
A few weeks ago, a letter was sent out to teachers at Coloma Elementary School, asking participating classes to send letters from the Southwest Michigan Veterans Support Group to veterans and active-duty soldiers. , right on Valentine’s Day.
“Makes them feel loved and makes them feel safe and when they’re home they feel so happy,” said third grader Analasia.
“I knew it was going to happen to them and they worked so hard that they, the whole class, that our teachers wanted us to do for them so they felt loved too,” said Maggie, student first grade says,
Students in Lance LaVanway’s third grade expressed an interest in making Valentine cards for family and friends, and some thought it would be great to include veterans.
Chere Phillips’ first class, allowed some teaching time to learn more about veterans’ service to the country.
“I found some pictures for them to color that said thank you veterans, so they had to pick the picture they wanted to color and then put their name on it,” Phillips said. “We talked about doing our best just like the veterans did for us.”
