Colombia Captures Drug-Trafficking Kingpin ‘Otoniel’ Wanted by U.S.
BOGOTA, Colombia—Colombia acknowledged it has arrested its most-wanted drug-trafficking kingpin, the chief of a rural militia of larger than 1,000 fighters who American prosecutors say oversaw a worthwhile cocaine-smuggling neighborhood to the U.S.
After years of using military might in opposition to the Gulf Clan in operations which have included aerial bombardments, Colombia launched Saturday the arrest of the group’s commander, Dairo Antonio Úsuga, alias Otoniel. President Iván Duque likened the autumn of Mr. Úsuga to the 1993 operation whereby Colombian police killed Pablo Escobar, the Medellín cartel boss.
