Community members gather around St. Louis weeks after it was vandalized

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Community members across Metro are rallying around a church in need.

News 4 reported two weeks ago about Nominal African Church vandalized. Among the damaged were religious statues, lighting, pianos, organs and sound systems.

Sandra Welch says she was devastated after watching the News 4 original story air.

“Crime against anyone, any organization or any business is truly a crime against all of us and it affects the entire city,” Welch said.

Welch doesn’t use an organ in the house, which prompted her to step in and donate it to the church.

“It is important for our community and families to know that when they go through things like this, they are not alone,” Welch said.

Since the church was vandalized a few weeks ago, volunteers have been helping with the cleanup and donation process.

Pastor Jack Hill said that among the donations was another organ.

Pastor Hill said: “They saw your story on channel 4 and decided to donate organs. “Everybody has seen the story and there are a lot of good people out there. It just reminds me that when bad things happen, there are more good people than bad people. Good people have been and are stepping up. “

Pastor Hill said that many of the people who have helped are not even members of the church, which means a lot to him.

“You don’t have to go to church here to be part of our church family,” said Pastor Hill. “All those who help us and have gone forth and done everything for us, I consider them part of my church family.”

Church services have been carried out online since the vandalism.

Pastor Hill expects cleanup and restoration to be in place over the next two weeks, allowing in-person service to resume on the first Sunday in October.
