Concert Review: Aaron Kwok is Cantopop’s Peter Pan

Aaron Kwok Amazing Kode World Tour 2023

Resorts World Ballroom
Sunday

It’s been eight years since Hong Kong singer Aaron Kwok last performed in Singapore, but not a single day seems to have passed. The songs and moves are mostly the same – and the star is ageless.

On the second night of his two sold-out shows, he transported over 6,000 spectators back in time to the 1990s as if he were Cantopop’s Peter Pan in a show that lasted nearly two and a half hours.

At 57 years old, Kwok is the second youngest of the Four Heavenly Kings, who reached the pinnacle of fame in the 1990s. The others are Jacky Cheung and Andy Lau, both 61, and Leon Lai, 56.

But when the clean-shaven, seemingly wrinkle-free Kwok stepped up from the platform below the stage to the energetic rhythms of The Wild City (1994) opening, it was clear that decades had not done. decline in his energy and motivation.

Wearing a tight-fitting reflective outfit with sunglasses and strawberry blonde hair, he shows off Gen X in a cool way.

The show is part of his Amazing Kode World Tour, which began in Las Vegas in March and will continue to Genting Highlands later this month.

Here are three highlights from his Singapore show.

1. Beautiful ballads

Kwok is not known for his ballade singing skills. But on Sunday, he performed some heartbreaking songs that were often neglected from his previous shows. There is When I Found Out That You Are In Love (1995), which shows the hurt when one’s partner falls in love with another person; And Who On Earth Can Tell Me? (1991) recalls a beautiful time with a lost love.
