This is a compliment sandwich. Copa America 2024, South America’s premier international soccer tournament, will again be held in the United States after the United States hosted its first showcase in 2016. Despite being the host country, the USMNT did not qualify directly to play in the event. However, six CONCACAF teams will participate. With America’s talent pool, it’s a safety net certainly make them the top country in North America, much less of the best half-dozen. The official host of the 2024 edition is CONCACAF as a federation, so the U.S. Football will not receive 80 million USD profits like it did from the 2016 event.

The 2023-34 CONCACAF Nations Tournament, not the competitive matches the USMNT will host this spring and summer, will determine which six teams will join the 10 CONMEBOL nations in the tournament. The United States took fourth place as hosts in 2016, being beaten 4-0 in the semi-final against Lionel Messi-led Argentina. No host city has been announced for the showcase. However, like U.S. Football is not available a permanent sports director, general manager, or the men’s national team head coach, today’s announcement makes it even more important to make the right personnel decisions.

Women’s opening ceremony gold Cup

In the latest CONCACAF-CONMEBOL media release, the addition of the top four South American women’s national teams cannot be overlooked for the inaugural Women’s Gold Cup in 2024. So clearly Brazil and the three nations other family. In addition to qualifying, there are Colombia, Argentina, and Paragoay. It’s great to add international competition to it regional tournaments. If there’s one thing the USWNT needs between the Olympics and the World Cup, it’s more competitive games against non-North American teams. Only Canada in recent years has provided any sufficient level of challenge from the region. And those games can only get you so far thanks to how much global talent there is. The USWNT qualified for the Gold Cup by qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics in pairs.

The last four

The North American and South American federations will also host a “four-club finals competition” featuring the best clubs from CONMEBOL and CONCACAF. Two teams from each continent will participate. It would make the most sense if those teams became participants in the Copa Libertadores Final and the CONCACAF Championship Final. The first edition of the tournament will take place in 2024, according to the announcement.

All roads for the USMNT are pointed toward hosting the 2026 World Cup. Without a tangible yield to better American soccer in every facet, all the lead-up to the event and domestic progress for the sport will be seen as a failure. The United States doesn’t have to win the first 48-team global event. A tiny shift in American expectations happened in Qatar with the performance against England. But the same usual end result happened — out Round of 16. With The Copa America is likely to be on the schedule of the US Soccer League next summer, so the possibility that the USMNT can take advantage of hosting the World Cup will increase.
