Conservative Party Leader: 2 loyal converts of Ontario MPs
Ottawa –
Two members of the Ontario Parliament are switching allegiances in the Conservative leadership race from Patrick Brown to Pierre Poilievre, citing the need to unite the fractious party.
Flamborough-Glanbrook MP Dan Muys and Dufferin-Caledon MP Kyle Seeback previously signaled their support for Brown’s campaign in March.
Now both MPs say Poilievre is the candidate who can bring the party together.
Brown is already less favored by caucus members than most of his opponents, and today’s loss means he is left with just two MPs on his side.
Party unity has been a growing concern for Conservatives since the bitter leadership race began, and has only grown as rhetoric from different factions less and less forgiven.
Several candidates have stated that they should win the leadership because they are the ones who will be able to unite the party when the race is over and defeat the Liberals in the next election.
