Convoy of trucks: Tentative bail decision for Tamara Lich

OTTAWA – An Ottawa judge is expected today to decide whether to grant bail for Tamara Lich, one of the leading organizers behind the protest against COVID-19 restrictions and the government. Freedom on Parliament Hill or not.

Lich, who was arrested last Thursday and charged with counsel to commit mischief, appeared before Ontario Court Judge Julie Bourgeois during a bail hearing on Saturday.

During that hearing, Lich promised to drop his objections and return to Alberta. The judge reserved a bail for Lich.

Patrick King, another well-known figure involved in the protests, is also scheduled for a bail hearing today in Ottawa.

King, 44, was arrested Friday and faces mischief charges, counsel to commit mischief, counsel to commit disobedience to a court order and counsel to restrain become police.

The bail hearings are scheduled for a day after the House of Commons voted in favor of the government’s use of the measures under the Emergencies Act.

The Liberal government received the support of the New Democratic Party for the measures to pass.

The Senate is expected to begin its own debate today on the measures.

Ottawa police said in a statement Monday that officers had made 196 arrests, with 110 subjects facing multiple charges.

Ottawa police also said 115 vehicles involved in the protest had been towed.
