Coral Gables Police investigating fatal shooting of an officer involved in shooting

GO VAP Coral Gables Police say they are investigating a shooting that involved an officer.

Police said the incident happened Sunday morning on the 100 block of Calabria Avenue.

According to police, officers received a call regarding individuals attempting to break into vehicles and respond to the area.

Upon arrival, an officer observed the men breaking into a vehicle, with the doors open and the hood raised.

Police said two officers who arrived first opened fire to save their lives, and one subject was killed.

A second subject has been arrested, police said.

A U-haul truck at the scene had several notable bullet holes in the driver’s side, and the dead subject’s body lay in it.

One of the officers was injured in the lower body, but police did not say how the injury took place. The officer is in good and stable condition at a local hospital, police said.
