Coronavirus in BC: 16 deaths in 72 hours, latest updates say

VANCOUVER –

Within three days, 16 deaths in British Columbia were attributed to COVID-19, the Department of Health said in an update on Monday.

The update includes 1,270 other confirmed cases of the illness during the same period. This brings the total number of new coronavirus infections confirmed in BC to 213,020 cases.

The latest update brings the seven-day rolling average for daily cases to 474, from 498 on Friday.

This is the lowest average the province has seen since August 13, when the average dropped to 463.

Another metric back to mid-August levels is active cases. At 3,837 on Monday, this is the lowest number since August 12 (3,834).

Of the 376 hospitalized infected COVID-19 patients, 116 are being treated in intensive care units.

The ministry said 206,665 people have recovered since the start of the pandemic; 2,273 people died.

Of the most recent deaths, eight were in the Island Health area. Half of the remaining deaths were attributed to the remaining four health agencies: one in Fraser Health, two in Vancouver Coastal, two in the Interior and three in Northern Health.

No new healthcare outbreaks have been reported, bringing the total number of facilities with ongoing outbreaks to 23.
