Coroner: Man, 3 kids in Indianapolis pond accidentally died

A man and his three young children died in a flooded car after going fishing, officials in Indiana said Wednesday.

Kyle Moorman, 27, of Indianapolis, and his children – one-year-old Kyran Holland, two-year-old Kyannah Holland and five-year-old Kyle Moorman II – all died of freshwater drowning, and the father also had an acute illness. Marion County Coroner’s Office said drunk.

Their bodies were found on July 12 in a car submerged in a pond.

The family went missing after leaving July 6 for a pond south of Indianapolis.

Officers entered the pond on July 12 after a report of a person died in the water. One man was dead, and a diving team later found a vehicle with the bodies of three children inside, police said at the time.

Family and friends of the Moormans offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to their whereabouts. They searched the pond and surrounding area for several days.

Moorman’s sister, Mariah Moorman, said her brother’s phone last rang near the pond around 12:40 a.m. on July 7, a few hours after he was seen. She said her brother often goes night fishing.

“As far as we know, he came out here to go fishing,” she told The Indianapolis Star at the time. “That’s what he told my sister. It’s not weird. He does it all the time.”
