Could the Saints be the destination if Sean Payton returns?

Since then Sean Payton has been on leave, the media and fans have speculated about where he will coach when he returns to the sidelines.

NOLA.com columnist Jeff Duncan reports that if Payton decides to return after a year at Fox Sports, his 15-year home could be the most realistic landing. Duncan reminds us that Payton still has a contract with the Saints through the end of the 2024 season, noting:

Someone close to Payton and familiar with his thinking believes a return to the Saints is possible “if things go sideways” in New Orleans. He has gone so far as to place the Saints at number 1 on the list of teams Payton could coach in 2023 if he chooses to return to coaching.

The “if” is out the door, 90 mph on Interstate 10. Things are going sideways in New Orleans and the team needs to get back to the vertical climb. Of course, there’s a reason Payton decided to leave when he did. The team is on the cusp of its first 10-loss losing season since 2005, which is not coincidentally the season right before Payton’s arrival in New Orleans.

Profits can depend on midfield upgrades. Every Mike Florio of Pro Football TalkA massive QB acquisition could be a possibility.

Florio recently discussed Payton’s appearance on Tom Brady’s “Let’s Go!” audio file. After co-host Jim Gray noted that Payton and Brady’s paths would not intersect at Fox Sports next season, Payton offered a joke suggesting the opposite.

“Who said Tommy was going to Fox right away? Obviously, we didn’t want to cause trouble for another team,” Payton said after Gray’s observation.

Brady replied, “You never know what happens in the NFL. So who knows? I think I’m retired, I’m not. Who knows? You never know what the future will be like. any.”

Payton is likely to return to the NFL after one season as a studio analyst for Fox Sports. Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox before he decided to return to Tampa Bay for the 2021 season. Whether he decides to join the broadcast or rerun in 2023 remains to be seen. see.

Florio ended his piece by pointing out the lack of destination where the two could join forces, saying, “Unless, of course, the Saints bring Payton back and then sign Brady.”

New Orleans (4-9) has no first-round draft pick and will likely be in the market for an upgrade at QB this season, either through free agency or through trade. A deep layer of QB which means draft is still a possibility.

Dennis Allen is in his second term as head coach of the NFL and his first season in New Orleans. He is 12-37 (.245) in his coaching career.

Payton broke the hearts of the Saints when he announced he would step down in January. Brady did the same on Monday when he ended his dream of an improbable play-off in New Orleans.

Can the two mend the heart of the franchise next season?
