Couple accused of starving their babies to death are now charged with murder

POPLARVILLE, Miss. (WLOX) – A Pearl River County couple are currently facing murder charges following the death of their five-month-old daughter.

Kendra Beck, 20, and Takoda Miller, 23, were arrested March 22 and booked into the Pearl River County Jail after being charged over the child’s death, which occurred in early October 2021.

According to the indictment, the couple knowingly, knowingly or recklessly starved 5-month-old Kairi Beck with the nutrients they need to sustain life or grow.

The couple have also been charged with child neglect after authorities said a second child, 19 months old, was found abandoned and abused.

The indictment alleges Beck and Miller deprived the child of food, clothing, shelter, health care or supervision, resulting in substantial harm to the child’s physical, mental or emotional health young. In addition, court documents said the abuse left the child infested with lice, covered in faeces, and developed severe diaper rash.

Both Beck and Miller are being held in the Pearl River County Jail without bond. They will be arranged in the circuit court on Tuesday morning.
