Couple playing big drums on their wedding night

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A newlywed is celebrating a big catch she landed on her wedding night, and we’re not talking about her husband.

Eliot and Earnie Granville of San Antonio said that after the wedding, they were discussing what to do on their wedding night.

Eliot suggested they go fishing, so they drove to the Red Dot Pier on the JFK Causeway.

Eliot decided to leave her wedding dress intact because she wanted to keep her wedding day going.

They arrived at Red Dot Pier just before 11 p.m. Sunday, and within minutes, Eliot Granville felt a tug of war.

She said it didn’t look like a big fish, but when she started spinning it in, she knew it was going to be a big fish.

“It took me about 10 minutes, 10-15 minutes of them, messing with him and fighting him trying to get him in,” Eliot said.

And that first glance reveals a very large black drum.

“I had to bend over and pick up its tail, and we brought it up to the dock but yeah, definitely a wedding night to remember,” Earnie Granville said.

Earnie had to borrow nets from some other fisherman to get the fish in, and they also don’t have scales, so the weight of the male is a mystery.

Eliot reckons it weighs between 40 and 50 pounds. She caught it with a dead shrimp.

And the male: It lived to fight another day, the newlyweds decided to let it go.
