COVID-19: Middlesex-London Health Unit reports 18 cases on Wednesday

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported 18 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, although the total tally increased by 19 cases, possibly due to data cleaning.

In total, there were 14,780 cases, including 138 active cases (up 12 cases), 14,390 recoveries (7 people up) and 252 deaths.

The most recent deaths reported on 22 November involved an unvaccinated man in his 60s and a fully vaccinated woman in her 80s.

Hospitalize

The London Medical Science Center has cared for 22 inpatients with COVID-19 as of Wednesday. Ten people are in the adult intensive care unit or the intensive care unit.

On Monday, LHSC medical director Dr Adam Dukelow explained that, over the past four weeks, around two-thirds of LHSC’s COVID hospitalizations have come from outside London-Middlesex.

The health unit said at least 259 cases have been reported since the start of the school year involving primary and secondary schools, as well as child and infant care centers.

Vaccination and testing

According to the latest vaccination data released Tuesday, 90.0% of residents 12 years of age and older had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of November 20, while 87.2% were vaccinated. full strains.

As of October 12, the unvaccinated accounted for 51.36% of all cases (245 out of 477) and 57.14% of all hospital admissions (eight out of 14).

The province reported 591 cases on Wednesday, of which 293 were unvaccinated people.

According to Wednesday’s report, 74 cases were recorded in Toronto, 63 in Windsor-Essex, 60 in Simcoe Muskoka, 48 in York Region and 43 in Peel Region. All other local public health units reported fewer than 35 cases.

Seven more deaths were reported.

Among the province’s 12 and older, 86.1% are fully immunized against COVID-19.

Elgin and Oxford

On Wednesday, Southwestern Public Health reported:

• Total 5,218 cases (up 22 cases)
• 165 active instances (down two)
• 4,956 cases resolved (increase 24 cases)
• 97 deaths so far (unchanged)

The latest death, reported Tuesday, involved a man in his 60s from Elgin County. SWPH also reported a death Monday involving a man in his 80s from Elgin County.

Of the 165 active cases in the area, 85 are in Elgin County (including 38 in Aylmer, 22 in St. Thomas and 21 in Bayham) and 80 in Oxford County (in there are 31 cases in Woodstock and Tillsonburg).

SWPH did not disclose the immunization status of individuals but told Global News on November 9 that about 78% of active cases at the time involved people who were not fully vaccinated.

Sixteen people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, with five in the ICU as of Wednesday.

SWPH is reporting an outbreak at Aylmer Retirement Residence involving eight resident cases and two staff cases.

The region’s testing positivity rate was 5.8% for the week of November 7, up from 5.1% for the week of October 31.

Huron and Perth

On Tuesday, Huron Perth Public Health reported:

• Total 2,497 cases (up by three)
• 33 active cases (down 11)
• 2,395 healing (increase by 14)
• 69 deaths so far (unchanged)

The most recent death was reported on November 16, HPPH also reported a death on November 15.

Of the 33 active cases, seven are in North Perth and six are in South Huron. The full case count by city can be found on the health unit’s dashboard.

There have been three people hospitalized with COVID-19 and no cases involving healthcare workers, as of Tuesday.

HPPH reported an outbreak at the North Perth Spinrite Children and Families Center in North Perth, which was declared on 22 November and involved two child cases.

There is also an ongoing outbreak involving an unspecified workplace.

The region’s testing positivity rate was 3.2% for the week of November 12, up from 2.7% for the week of October 31.

The HPPH vaccine panel shows that as of November 22, 83.1% of children 12 years of age and older were fully immunized while 85.6% had received at least one dose.

Sarnia and Lambton

On Wednesday, Lambton Public Health (LPH) reported:

• 4,328 total cases (an increase of five cases)
• 35 active cases (increase one case)
• 4,218 resolved cases (increase by four)
• 75 dead (unchanged)

The most recent death reported was on November 23, a spokesperson told Global News that the death involved a person in their 80s who died in hospital on November 20..

Five COVID-19 patients were in the care of Bluewater Health on Wednesday.

LPH is reporting an active outbreak at the Bluewater Health hospital, which was declared November 18 and involved fewer than five patient cases and fewer than five staff cases.

A previously reported workplace outbreak was declared on November 9 and involved three cases listed as resolved as of November 23.

All active cases at Lambton Kent County School Board schools can be found online, as well as cases at St. Clair.

The test positivity rate for the week of November 7 was 2.2%, down from 3.8% the previous week.

Among area residents 12 years of age and older, 81.7% were fully immunized and 84.4% received at least one dose.
