COVID-19: MLHU reports 18 cases, 15 recoveries Friday

On Friday, the Middlesex-London Health Unit reported 18 cases of COVID-19, although the total number of cases increased by 17 to 13,603 with 209 active cases (up two), 13,159 recoveries (up 15). ) and 235 deaths.

The most recent recorded death was added to the MLHU’s dashboard on September 3 and involved an unvaccinated woman in her 30s.

The number of cases involving a variant of interest remained unchanged at 4,061.

The analysis of known variant cases is as follows:

• 3,384 instances of the Alpha . variant
• 547 instances of the Delta . variant
• 124 instances of the Gamma . variant
• two instances of variant Beta
• a case of the Kappa . variant
• a case of the Zeta . variant

There are also two cases listed with old code numbers, one is described as B.1.617 and the other is listed as B.1.617.3.

The test positivity rate in the region was 2.9% for the week of August 29, the same as the previous week.

Hospitalize

The London Medical Science Center said it was caring for nine inpatients with COVID-19 as of Friday, down two from Thursday. Five or fewer patients are in adult intensive care.

Five inpatients with COVID-19 or less are at Children’s Hospital, none receiving pediatric health care.

The organization has reported five or fewer employees now testing positive for COVID-19, down from six on Tuesday.

St. Joseph’s Health Care London (SJHCL) is reporting a non-outbreak case involving a healthcare worker.

Outbreak

A long-term care home outbreak is underway. The outbreak at McCormick Home was declared on September 3 and involved two of its permanent home areas: Memory Lane and Evergreen Walk.

School and childcare

One case was reported in a child or infant care centre: Kids and Company – London.

MLHU is not currently reporting any cases at schools in the area.

Vaccination and testing

As of the end of September 4 and released on Tuesday, MLHU said 77.3% of residents 12 years of age and older were fully immunized and 84.0% had received at least one dose.

According to the health unit, all deaths reported in the past six weeks in the region were among unvaccinated people.

Only two hospitalizations, or 6.45% of hospitalizations, involved people who were fully immunized.

When looking at all cases over the past six weeks, 16.6% (or 130 of 783 cases) involved fully vaccinated individuals and 16.09% (or 126 cases) were partial vaccination.

On the health unit’s website, people can find information about pop-up clinics, mass vaccination clinics and pharmacies; guide those who go to vaccinate outside the province, abroad; support means of transport for those in need; and more.

Ontario

The province reported 848 cases on Friday. NS:

• 534 of the unvaccinated
• 76 of those partially vaccinated
• 189 of those fully vaccinated
• 49 people with “unknown” vaccination status

According to Friday’s report, 166 cases were recorded in Toronto, 117 in Peel Region, 77 in York Region, 74 in Windsor-Essex, 53 in Hamilton, 53 in Ottawa and 48 in Durham Region. All other medical units reported fewer than 45 cases.

Five new deaths have been reported and six deaths that occurred more than a month ago have been added to the tally.

Among Ontarians eligible for immunization, 77.7% were fully immunized while 84.1% had received at least one dose.

Elgin and Oxford

On Friday, Southwestern Public Health reported:

• 4,131 total cases (an increase of seven cases)
• 41 active cases (increase by four)
• 4,005 recoveries (triple increase)
• 85 people died
• 1,036 variants of cases of interest, with 769 Alpha, 212 Delta (increase by seven) and 55 Beta or Gamma

The most recent death reported was on August 31 involving a woman in her 80s in Oxford County.

Of the 41 active cases, 12 are in Woodstock, 9 are in St. Thomas and eight cases in South West Oxford. The number of cases by municipality for the pandemic can be found on the health unit’s dashboard.

Two people were hospitalized with COVID-19, with one in the ICU.

The health unit said there is no active institutional outbreak.

The Thames Valley School Board is reporting every positive case at Westfield Public Schools in Tillsonburg and College Avenue High School in Woodstock.

The region’s testing positivity rate was 2.0% for the week of August 29, up from 1.0% for the week of August 22.

As of September 9, SWPH said 77.3% of residents 12 years and older were fully immunized while 83.5% had received at least one dose.

SWPH adds that if anyone needs a copy of their immunization receipt, they can download it online using their Ontario postcode and health card or call 1-833-943-3900.

Information on where to get the vaccinations, the conditions for using the vaccine, and the booking and cancellation of appointments can be found on the website of the medical unit.

Health officials say the mass immunization clinic in St. Thomas will have his final injections at Memorial Arena on September 10 before reopening on September 13 at a new location at 1230 Talbot St.

People can add their name weekly to the medical unit’s same-day immunization list, also known as the Cancellation List. Some pharmacies in the area are also continuing to offer COVID-19 vaccines.

Huron and Perth

On Thursday, Huron Perth Public Health reported:

• Total 2,075 cases (up nine from Wednesday)
• 30 active instances (down four)
• 1,984 recoveries (year increase)
• 61 people died
• 414 variants of cases of concern (increase by six)

Of the 30 active cases, nine are in Stratford and six are in Perth East. The number of cases by city can be found on the health unit’s dashboard.

Six people are listed as hospitalized as of Thursday.

There is one positive case among a healthcare worker.

An outbreak declared on 20 August involving the Knollcrest Lodge in Perth East is still active and involves a total of 12 cases with seven residents and five of staff as of Wednesday. At least three deaths have been linked to the outbreak.

The region’s testing positivity rate was 2.2% for the week of August 29, up from a revised 1.8% for the week of August 22.

The HPPH vaccine panel shows that as of September 7, 74.8% of residents 12 years of age and older were fully immunized while 81.1% had received at least one dose.

Sarnia and Lambton

On Friday, Lambton Public Health reported:

• 3,710 cases (up three cases from Thursday)
• 19 activities (increase by one)
• 3,622 recoveries (doubles up)
• 69 people died
• 540 variants of cases of interest
  

No active outbreaks have been reported by LPH.

The most recent test positivity rate was 0.81% for the week of August 29, down from 1.24% for the week of August 22.

Among those 12 years of age and older, 73.5% were fully immunized and 79.0% received at least one dose.

Bluewater Health says it currently has no patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

Those who may be immunized for a short period of time are encouraged to sign up for Lambton Public Health’s Daily Vaccine Prophylaxis List.

People can book and reschedule a COVID-19 vaccination appointment using the medical unit’s registration page. People can also call the vaccine service center at 226-254-8222.
