COVID-19: Turdeau says fourth dose will be available
On Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the government had secured enough doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for all Canadians eligible for a booster shot as well as a fourth dose, according to a statement from his office. Prime Minister Trudeau.
Trudeau made the comments during a call with Canada’s provincial and territorial prime ministers, as the country grapples with rising infection and hospitalization rates due to the highly infectious variant of Omicron. .
Trudeau said the government also plans to deliver 140 million rapid COVID-19 tests to provinces and territories by January, according to the statement.
This month, Canada broke a single-day record for the most COVID-19 hospitalizations. Last Friday, officials said new daily cases rose 65% last week, threatening health care systems.
Official data shows that as of December 18, 87.3% of Canadians 12 years of age and older have received two shots while the figure for children aged 5 to 12 is just 1.3%.
