CPS, Chicago police are investigating after security guard George Westinghouse College Prep violently scuffled with students in video

CHICAGO (WLS) – Chicago police and Chicago Public Schools are investigating a violent altercation between a security guard and a student, all of which was captured on video.

Speaking exclusively to ABC7 Eyewitness News, the teen involved in the incident said he did not feel safe going to school and did not know if he would be allowed to return on Thursday.

The security guard, who is a Chicago police officer, at George Westinghouse College Prep in East Garfield Park was armed during the incident.

Sharod Grafton said: “While he was strangling me, he was pointing a gun at me.

Grafton said he was the student in red pants seen in the video, which was filmed Tuesday at the high school.

“I felt it escalated too quickly and could have been avoided,” said Grafton. “Only if he comes to me correctly, as a grown man, and really says and says, ‘This is what you can do.'”

The 17-year-old boy said the incident started when he and his friends tried to go to the wrong door. Grafton claimed even after he complied with the instructions given, the guard taunted him before he spoke in his own defense.

“He came in front of me and started talking more. Then he just grabbed me,” he recalls.

Grafton said the guard’s gun fell during the altercation. He also admitted he hit back during the struggle, breaking his glass.

Grafton said: ‘I couldn’t breathe because he had his arm around my throat. “So it’s like I’m fighting, trying to push him off.”

In the end, some people moved in, some people showed up to hold the officer,

Grafton’s mother, Keana Hill, said: “Going to school where he was supposed to be safe, right now he’s feeling, you know, he can be really hard,” Keana Hill, mother by Grafton. “So that’s not fair. And it’s ‘not okay.’

The school’s principal said the matter was being investigated, that “staff had been removed from the school,” adding, “We remain committed to providing your child with a positive and safe learning environment.” whole.”

Chicago police confirmed they had also opened an internal investigation into the incident, but did not say whether the officer involved had been arrested.
