Cummins and Isuzu collaborate to produce electric truck prototype
Cummins, the company best known for its diesel engine, just announced a partnership with Isuzu to “create a battery prototype with average function, electric truck“For North America.
Exploring electric powertrains is not entirely new to Cummins, as it’s about the transition to electromagnetism in 2017. In fact, Cummins even revealed a battery-powered truck back then, too. However, this electric truck from Isuzu is new, and it will bring the Cummins PowerDrive6000 powertrain into Isuzu’s F-Series. vans which you can see in the photo above.
Cummins doesn’t detail specs for its PowerDrive6000, but we’ve seen the actuator used in a mixture concept from Cummins before. It provides 50 miles of electric range when the battery packed in that truck was full, but with this is a full battery tram, we suspect that Cummins and Isuzu are using much larger batteries for longer range. We don’t have any key specs like range or power, but we suspect those will arrive at a later date.
This year, Isuzu and Cummins will put the truck through testing and demonstration in fleets in North America. Once completed – assuming it succeeds – the partnership could see Isuzu and Cummins teaming up to build battery-powered trucks for commercial use in North America.
“We are excited to partner with Isuzu to accelerate the decarbonisation of the partnership,” said Amy Davis, Vice President and President of New Power at Cummins. “It is through our shared commitment to innovation that we provide our customers with safe, reliable zero-emission solutions.”
