Another interesting British boxer set to light up the ultralight scene is Adam Azim. Smith and Azim haven’t fought yet, but they did spend time together in camp while preparing for Luke Campbell’s fight with Ryan Garcia.
“We’re not competitors, we’re just about the same weight,” Azim said of Smith. “He’s a lovely guy. Me and him get along really well.”
Azim tipped Smith to win the fight with Benjamin on Saturday. “He’s definitely going to win, definitely by knockout at the end of the week. I think he’ll skip him,” Azim said. He is young and ambitious and will soon be in action when he beats Rylan Charlton on November 27.
If the two continue to progress, eventually boxing may become unavoidable. “People are talking about a war,” Azim said. “I have to focus on my fight.
“If that fight goes well then it’s a good fight. But I’m fighting Rylan Charlton and that’s the main thing.”
Smith certainly expects Azim to continue to rise. “Adam is starting to make small strides and it’s clear he’s getting promoted very well with Sky and people are paying attention to him,” Smith said.
