Dark winds will blow again at AMC.
The basic cable network gave a quick makeover for a second season of the series starring Zahn McClarnon. The series, which premieres June 12, has a rare 100 percent rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Dark winds will return next year with another six-episode season.
“This once-popular cast and creative team brought something really special to Dark winds,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios at AMC Networks. “We can’t wait to share the rest of this thrilling journey of the first season with our fans and follow Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee into a second season on AMC and AMC+ next year. Huge thanks to our entire production team and special thanks to executive producers Robert Redford, George RR Martin, Chris Eyre and of course Zahn McClarnon, who also led the cast. and brings the man, authority, and wisdom of rich life experiences to everything he does. ”
Western noir ranks as the #1 premiere series in AMC+ history; Its first series ranked as the number 5 cable drama of the current season and attracted 2.2 million viewers with three days of delay.
Redford purchased the rights to George Hillerman’s books in 1986. Game of Thrones author Martin, who was a friend of the author from 1980 until Hillerman’s death in 2008, also ran the series for $5 million a volume. Dark winds was filmed in three different sovereign states, boasts a screenwriting studio of five native writers and is primarily directed by filmmaker Chris Eyre. Graham Roland (Jack Ryan) created and executive produced the series starring McClarnon (also executive producer), Kiowa Gordon, and Jessica Matten.
The renewal comes at a critical time for AMC, which has already said goodbye to New Year’s Eve Killing and is wrapping Better to call Saul at the end of the year with the end of the top Walking corpses series set for 2023.
