Dauphin Island Town Councilor charges DUI and leaves crash scene
DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WALA) – Dauphin Island Town Councilman Gene Fox faces serious charges after being placed in Metro Jail. Fox was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with DUI and Leaving the scene of an accident.
According to Alabama Law Enforcement, the collision between the two vehicles occurred around 8:57 p.m. Wednesday (May 18) at approximately 8:57 p.m. Soldiers say that 47-year-old Fox was driving a Toyota 4Runner life 2001 when he was involved in a collision with a 2007 Dodge Charger. The soldiers said that Fox continued to walk after the accident.
A “be on the lookout” advice was given on Fox’s Toyota 4Runner and he was eventually stopped by the Dauphin Island Police Department. The Dauphin Island Police Department detained Fox until soldiers arrived on the scene. Fox then requested medical treatment before the Army arrived and was taken to a local area hospital.
The ALEA said that while the Troops were in the process of obtaining a search warrant, Fox refused medical treatment and left the hospital.
Fox was arrested on May 20 for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident. The crash happened on AL 188 at the AL 193 intersection in Mobile County.
Nothing more is available as the ALEA’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
Fox is free after posting $1750 bail. We’ve reached out to Fox for comment – but haven’t heard back yet.
We’ve also reached out to Dauphin Island Mayor Jeff Collier, who told FOX 10 News he will withhold comment until the full investigation is complete.
Meanwhile, Fox has set a June 7 court date.
