David DePatie – RIP
There may be a lot to say about DePatie, however I’ll begin with the actual fact he was the final producer of the Warner Bros. Animation Division in 1961-62 – the division that created Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies initially beneath Leon Schlesinger in 1930…
In 1963, he fashioned DePatie-Freleng Enterprises with Friz Freleng – DePatie the businessman, Freleng the artistic director. One in all their first jobs was creating the Pink Panther character and animated titles for the 1964 Blake Edwards characteristic movie. The title sequence was so acclaimed, United Artists paid to provide a pilot (The Pink Phink) which gained DePatie and Freleng an Academy Award for Finest Cartoon Brief.
